Stop using it and get medical help right away if you have any symptoms of a severe allergic reaction, including: swelling of the face/tongue/throat/liver, rash, or difficulty breathing; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat; or severe dizziness or fainting. Symptoms of an allergic reaction may include: trouble breathing; swelling of the face/tongue/throat/liver; trouble swallowing; trouble breathing; chest tightness; a fast heart rate; fever; confusion; seizures; rash; increased red/pale skin, or itching. Call your doctor if you have any side effects that bother you. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. Drug interactions may change the results of your medicine. This medicine may increase the level of a chemical called cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). Talk to your doctor about the use of this medicine with other people who are taking similar drugs. See also contraindications. Side effects that may occur in certain conditions may need to be managed separately. Your doctor will let you know the differences between the effects of each drug separately. Tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse.
Inform your doctor if you are breast-feeding:Your doctor will know about any breast-feeding while using this medicine. Your doctor will tell you whether it is safe to breast-feed while you are using this medicine. Drug interactions are possible. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant.
Inform your doctor if you are using any other medicines, including other medicines that may interact with aciclovir. These medicines may affect the results of your medicine.
Aciclovir reduces the severity of herpes simplex virus (HSV) genital herpes outbreaks. It is a well-tolerated antiviral drug and a well-tolerated oral medication, particularly for people who do not respond to other antivirals, such as the oral antivirals of valacyclovir, valaciclovir, and acyclovir. The recommended dose of aciclovir is 10 mg taken orally once daily for five days. It is taken as needed approximately one hour before the start of an outbreak. Patients should not take aciclovir more than once every day unless directed by their physician. The patient should be observed for five days after the start of the course of treatment with either aciclovir or valacyclovir before they can start a course of treatment with any other antiviral drugs. If the patient is pregnant or nursing, they should be aware of the potential risk to their unborn child and be apprised of the benefits of treatment with aciclovir before taking it during pregnancy. The drug should not be used during pregnancy if the patient is nursing. Patients should be advised to avoid alcohol consumption while taking the drug and to use the product only after the patient is advised to do so. The drug should not be taken by women who are planning pregnancy, such as patients with HIV. The patient should be advised to inform their physician of any other medications they are taking.
